Sharkoon Reveals SATA-To-USB 3.0 Adapter

Sharkoon has a history of creating interesting, under-stated peripherals that no one really thinks about, until they see them. And once they do, it's nearly impossible to forget about. Look at this one for instance -- it's an external SATA-to-USB 3.0 adapter. Basically, it connects external SATA drives to a PC or notebook through a USB 3.0 port, which more and more laptops are shipping with. This is a turnkey solution to make an external HDD accessible on one's laptop, without dealing with crazy cabling or soldering.
The 22-pin adapter supports both 2.5" and 3.5" HDDs as well as optical 5.25" drives. The power supply of the drive occurs through the enclosed power pack, and a status LED indicates operation and data transfer. The adapter sits in a black plastic housing with a silver brushed aluminum finish, and while it's not super portable, it's definitely not too large to take if you have a carry-on. On top of that, the device offers a convenient Backup Function: data can be saved and synchronized with just a push of a button. The desired Backup settings can be entered in advance using the included software.
It's a plug-and-play, and ships with software support for Windows XP, Vista and 7; it'll ship soon for 22.29 Euros, though no other price for other regions is given.
